Conditions for Use of the Slipway

General

The winch and lifts are to be operated only by trained and authorised persons. Users are required to assist with movement of the boat and equipment, under the direction of the approved operator. Appropriate safety equipment comprising safety footwear and hi-vis must be worn — if you don’t have your own, the Society has a small stock available on loan.

The user is responsible for the safe conduct of all work in the dock from the point where winch and lifting operations are complete and the boat is in its final position, until an approved operator begins preparations to move the boat out of the dock.

Users are responsible for ensuring that any power tools, cables or extension leads used are in good condition, electrically safe, and used safely with appropriate PPE.

Users are to ensure the internal area is, as far as practicable, maintained in a clean and tidy condition throughout the period of use.

Charges

• A deposit of £200 is required to confirm a booking. This is non-returnable and non-transferable if the booking is cancelled with less than 28 days’ notice.
• Haul out, first day, and return to water on the last day: £210.00.
• If a haul-out is delayed by the Society until after 14:00, the charge will cover the day following haul-out.
• £52 for extra full days in the first week.
• £52 a day for the second or subsequent weeks.
• All booked days must be paid for.
• If you are not ready to be returned to the water by 09:00 on the last booked day, the Society reserves the right to make an overstay penalty of £200 a day, or part thereof.
• Electricity is metered in the dock stores and charged at 41p per unit. You will be charged for electricity used by the winch, the pressure washer, the overhead lights, fans, and to recharge the lifting columns and portable lights, as well as any other electricity used directly by you.
• Heating is charged at £3.18 an hour — the meter stops once the workshop reaches the desired temperature.
• All prices exclude VAT.

Insurance

All boat owners are to inform their insurance company that they are being slipped.

The boat owner is responsible for any subcontractor they employ, and must supply the Society, in advance, with a copy of their insurance including third-party cover for £2,000,000.

Fire Safety

• Fires or heaters that exhaust into the air outside the boat must not be used. The Society has a number of small fan heaters available if required. Cookers may be used.
• The boat owner must ensure all their crew and contractors are aware of the emergency exits, and that the emergency exits are always kept clear.
• The boat owner must devise a fire escape plan, including activation of the alarm and evacuation to the Fire Assembly Point. If required, the Society can supply an additional ladder, which must be firmly attached to the boat and used only for escape purposes.
• Engines must not be run while the boat is on the slipway.
• Users must make themselves aware of the Hot Works Procedure. Portable fire extinguishers on a trolley are kept in the store and should be moved to the work area. The Society must be informed immediately if they have been discharged.

Equipment Provided

Safety equipment (safety footwear, disposable socks, and hi-visibility jackets) needed during movement of the boat is supplied on loan by the Society and must be worn whilst the boat is being moved or lifted.

The use of the slipway includes the benefit of an industrial pressure washer. You must ensure it is operated safely — goggles are supplied, and care must be taken that it is not operated in the direction of any person. Both store doors must be closed to avoid ingress of washing, and you are responsible for the before- and after-use checks on the pressure washer.

Moveable access steps are provided for normal access to the boat — ladders must not be used for this purpose. Portable lighting is provided for use under the boat; please ensure it is recharged after use and returned ready for the next user.

Waste and Cleanliness

• All waste and rubbish, including paint cans, must be taken away by you and disposed of responsibly — please do not put it in the Society’s bins.
• Grey water must not be drained into the slipway.
• On completion of works, the walls, floor (including the rail tracks and cable slot) and the doors must be washed down, and debris removed from below the grating by the door.
• The external sump must be emptied, using the pump-out unit, before the boat is returned to the water.

Please Note

If any of the conditions covered in this document are not adhered to, the Society reserves the right to retain all or part of your deposit.

Your boat should have a flat steel bottom. If your boat is ‘V’ bottomed, please discuss this with the Society before booking — if the boat proves unsuitable once slipped, the deposit will be forfeited.
